Moscow police reported a 19% increase in drug crimes over the year

Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Police Colonel General Alexander Gorovoy said that in 2023 in Moscow the number of crimes related to drug trafficking increased by 19%. According to him, just last year, investigators seized 1,216 kg of narcotic and psychotropic substances.
Mr. Gorovoy presented report for 2023 at a meeting of the board of the capital department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. According to the data provided, over the past year in Moscow, 386 wholesale drug supply channels were stopped, and 13 clandestine drug laboratories were liquidated.
The report also states that Moscow police have maintained the downward trend in crime. The total number of murders in 2023 decreased by 22.3%, the number of crimes with intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm by 8.8%, and rape by 21.2%.
In addition, the number of burglaries decreased by 24.4%, vehicle thefts by 32%, and bank card thefts by 9%. The total number of robberies decreased by 30.7%, robberies – by 25.4%.
In total, in 2023, Moscow police solved 6,874 crimes committed as part of organized groups and criminal communities. As part of operational search activities, police identified 2,116 active participants in such groups and two of their leaders.
