CSKA Moscow defeated Zenit St. Petersburg at home in the 4th round of the group stage of the SEHAGazprom League in handball. CSKA (Russia) – Zenit (Russia) – 29:27 (14:10).

They tried for the guests: Oleg Lunya – 6/10, Pavel Turaev – 4/13, Alexander Petrov – 3/4, Eldar Nasyrov, Timur Solodovnikov – 3/5 each and goalkeeper Nikita Nikulin (12/40, 30%).
With a spectator interest of half a dozen people at the Dynamo arena, the army team and St. Petersburg showed attacking handball: throws 47-50, with an efficiency of 62%-54% and breaking through seven-meter 2-6.
The final score of the Moscow-St. Petersburg handball confrontation should not mislead anyone. The hosts were in the lead almost the entire match, but in the end they made both their coach and fans worry.
St. Petersburg got off to a super successful start – Zenit point guard Oleg Lunya elegantly sent a leather sphere into the CSKA goal. But the wards of Oleg Khodkov quickly took the ball and the game to their hands, and took the lead. Already in the seventh minute, Dmitry Torgunov was forced to take a time-out – the advantage of the hosts grew by leaps and bounds. The “tea party” and the coach’s instructions helped the Petersburgers – Timur Solodovnikov and Mikhail Gredasov fired a duet, and the score is already equal.
But then the army goalkeeper Stanislav Tretynko, who came out onto the court, came into action – he dragged everything that flew into the target of his gate. This went on for almost 15 minutes of the meeting, during which the CSKA goalkeeper made seven saves in a row, including a penalty from Gredasov. The Muscovites’ attack was just what they needed – during the reporting period, they hit the gates of Zenit seven times.
But the St. Petersburg goalkeeper Nikita Nikulin is not a bastard. His rescue after the “air” of the left welterweight CSKA Ilya Belevtsov from the pass of the army captain Daniil Shishkarev can be shown to children in handball schools. And then there was a perfect counterattack from CSKA: the goalkeeper of the army team threw the ball across the entire court, and the winger who rushed into the gap caught him with one hand and left no chance for Zenit Nikulin – 11:6.
At the 42nd minute, after the ball thrown by left welterweight Pavel Turaev, the guests almost caught up with the hosts – 19:17. And here already Khodkov takes a time out to calm his people and give new instructions. After that, a handball miracle happened: the army point guard Denis Afonin addressed the captain with a short pass, and Shishkarev, jumping almost from the spot, completed the attack with a mocking twist. St. Petersburg keeper Nikulin in this episode was an outside observer.
In the last minutes of the match, the St. Petersburg team tried with all their might to get the army team account. Roman Stolyarov, lineman of the guests, reduced the gap in the score one and a half minutes before the final whistle – Moscow led 28:27. This was followed by the removal of Looney 40 seconds before the end of the match, and the guests could not do more. But the Belarusian playmaker of the army team Julian Girik amazingly slipped through the St. Petersburg defense and put a winning point in the match.
The victory brought CSKA to a clear second place in Group B. The army team is one point behind the “Brest Bags”, but the leader still has a match in hand. The last two rounds will be held on January 15 and 28.
