Valery Badmaev, editor-in-chief of the Sovremennaya Kalmykiya newspaper, became a defendant in a criminal case under an article about discrediting the Russian army. According to TASS, a preventive measure was chosen for a 72-year-old man in the form of a ban on certain actions.
“He was detained for a day, and today the court chose a preventive measure for him to ban certain actions until February 28, 2023,” a relative of the suspect told the agency. According to her information, the journalist is charged with reposting a video in which a person who introduces himself as an “Azov” (a member of the Ukrainian Azov regiment, recognized in Russia as a terrorist organization and banned) talks about the actions of the Russian army.
The Dozhd TV channel (recognized as a foreign media agent), citing lawyer Gelena Fedorova, clarifies that Mr. Badmaev was banned from accessing the Internet and using the phone.
Earlier, Radio Liberty (recognized as a foreign media agent), citing relatives of Valery Badmaev, reported that the house of the editor-in-chief of Sovremennaya Kalmykia was searched with the participation of four employees of the Investigative Committee. The journalist, according to the publication, seized his passport, laptop, phone and router. Later, Mr. Badmaev was sent for interrogation.
