Moscow decorated for the New Year and Christmas

The New Year is rushing towards us, everything will happen soon! The capital’s communal services have already decorated the city for the New Year and Christmas. From December 14 until the end of the New Year holidays, the capital will be decorated with New Year’s illumination and light installations.

About 4,000 light structures and more than a thousand fir trees were installed on the streets of the capital for the New Year. Bright outfits for the streets of the capital are created by professional decorators, and the festive decoration traditionally uses arches sparkling with multi-colored lights and favorite Christmas toys. Light tunnels, figures of fairy-tale characters fill the center of Moscow with a special atmosphere every evening.

Red Square is always decorated with nostalgic touches, especially beautiful in GUM. The main department store of the country was decorated with bright illuminations and garlands in the blue and white colors of the famous Gzhel. On Red Square, they traditionally put up an elegant Christmas tree near the GUM ice rink. On some central streets of Moscow, citizens and guests of the capital can admire light installations from garlands stretched between houses all year round – the so-called “starry sky”: in warm weather, butterflies hang among yellow lights, and in winter – balls and golden garlands with luminous snowflakes. On the eve of the New Year holidays, Nikolskaya Street, Kuznetsky Most, as well as Kamergersky Lane with such decoration look especially elegant.

On Manezhnaya Square we will be pleased with a huge Christmas tree, which is decorated with 3 km of light garlands and 3,500 Christmas toys (balls, icicles, cones, clocks, candles, bells, horses and other decorative elements).

Light trees are one of the most complex elements of city decoration. Each of them is almost a kilometer of garlands, and to make the tree look beautiful, you need to check each LED. Forests of these fabulous trees will be installed near the Northern River Station, on the Kuznetsky Bridge and the observation deck of the Vorobyovy Gory.

On Poklonnaya Gora, a huge Christmas tree toy “New Year’s ball”, beloved by everyone, weighing 35 tons and 20 meters high, it consists of 176,000 LEDs, was placed! Openwork diadems, balls and even a tall snow-white cake with cupids lit up with millions of lights on Theater Square. Luminous polar bears settled near the Rostokinsky aqueduct, and a figured arch was placed on Revolution Square near the Vitali fountain. Near the Arc de Triomphe on Kutuzovsky Prospekt, the townspeople are greeted by the luminous Father Frost and the Snow Maiden, and in front of the entrance to Gorky Park, a whole village of gnomes has appeared among the spruce forest. The symbol of the coming year – the rabbit – can be found on the territory of the Yauza Park in Lazorev passage. Europe Square turned into a piece of St. Petersburg: rostral columns, a drawbridge and a sailboat were installed there. Light arches have already been installed on Tverskoy Boulevard, the entrances to the Boulevard Ring are adorned with the numbers 2023, and pillars along Tverskoy are decorated with the familiar iridescent “glasses of champagne”.

For the first time, New Year’s decorations are used for constructions that previously appeared on the city’s sites on other holidays. For example, a luminous composition in the form of a hashtag with the inscription “we are together” and a five-pointed red star with gold edges appeared on Red Square next to the Historical Museum. The same decorations appeared in Zaryadye Park and at VDNKh.

A winter fairy tale was arranged in all districts and in every park. More than a thousand firs – the main symbols of the holiday – were placed in different parts of the city. They are from 6 to 25 meters high, decorated with colorful balls and garlands. Luminous numbers of the coming year – 2023 – flaunt on many streets and squares.

Stores are also looking to make their window displays brighter and more inviting, creating a fairy tale atmosphere for the winter holidays.

For the design of the capital this year, no additional money was taken from the budget. Public utilities use the designs of past years, updated for the new date and symbolism of the holiday. All decorative elements are multifunctional and can be used more than once. Although the decorations are from last year, they delight and shine like new! This was preceded by painstaking work on the restoration and restoration of urban New Year’s decorations for a month and a half. After dismantling, the decorations will be sent to a warehouse, where specialists will clean and repair them in order to please the townspeople more than once. Now the workers daily check the existing lighting structures: they repair, if necessary, change the lamps in the garlands.
