Accidents with carsharing cars in 2022 decreased by 12% compared to the same period a year earlier, the Moscow City Hall and the traffic police said. Market participants began to actively block the accounts of aggressive drivers or increase the cost of trips for them, explain the statistics of the authorities and service operators. Independent experts believe that the decrease in the accident rate was partly influenced by the increase in the average check per trip (by 28% in 2022) and the reduction in the car sharing audience due to the departure of some users abroad and to other cities – this led to a decrease in the number of trips in the capital’s short-term system rent by 4% compared to 2021.

The Moscow Department of Transport yesterday announced a noticeable decrease in the accident rate in the capital with the participation of carsharing cars – by 12% (a total of 392 accidents occurred over the past year). The number of wounded in them decreased by 16% (457 people), the dead – by 13% (20 people). Similar data was previously provided by the traffic police. The traffic police recorded a reduction in accidents by 11.5% with short-term rental cars, and the number of injured in them decreased by 15.7%.

The total fleet of carsharing cars in Moscow is 30,000 cars. In 2022, according to deptrans, users most often rented Volkswagen Polo, Kia Rio, Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Rapid, Skoda Octavia. Every day, 172,000 people are transported by carsharing cars.

The decrease in the accident rate in the deptrans is explained mainly by the traffic safety control systems used by the operators. In Yandex.Drive, Kommersant was told that back in 2021, the company launched a new driving analysis model that creates a profile for each user in the application. The algorithm analyzes the last 200 km of trips, taking into account, among other things, sudden braking and starting, aggressive lane changes, tight corner entries and speeding. As a result, an individual rating is formed for each user: the more accurate the trip, the higher the rating. The most careful drivers receive a ten percent cashback with Yandex.Plus points. In case of careless driving, warnings are first issued, then the price of the trip increases for the user. If these measures do not work, access to the service is blocked. Since the launch of the profile – from June 2021 to January 2022 – the number of sharp accelerations of users of the Yandex service has decreased by 49%, sharp turns – by almost 29%, sharp braking – by 28%, aggressive rebuilds – by 31%, statistics cite in company.

Delimobil also advises users on how to choose a safe driving style, such as avoiding sudden maneuvers or slower braking. “Driving style is one of the most comprehensive assessments,” the company explained. “Algorithms that take into account more than 150 criteria are responsible for its formation. In 2022, approximately 40% of Delimobil customers improved their driving style as a result of our recommendations.”

“At the end of each trip, the client receives a notification of violations,” BelkaCar said. “After implementing this tool, the accident rate decreased by 20%. We also use a driver identification system before the start of a trip and a smart user control system behind the wheel. For example, before starting a trip, the application can automatically prompt the user to take a test or take a selfie. Based on this additional verification, access to the application may be blocked in case of questions. BelkaCar claims that even at the start they cut off more potential violators than other operators: “As a result, we have the most polite and accurate drivers.”

The reduction in the accident rate was affected by the reduction in the audience of the service due to the rise in price of services (the average check for a trip in 2022 increased by 28%, Kommersant reported earlier) and the departure of some users abroad and to other cities, says Petr Shkumatov, coordinator of the Blue Buckets movement . This thesis is partially confirmed by the data of the department itself: at the end of 2021, the department called the figure of 50 million trips in the short-term car rental system, at the end of 2022 – already 48 million (minus 4%). A number of other problems remain, the expert notes. Muscovites often complain about the “boorish” behavior of car sharing drivers, he says, careless parking in the second row, in courtyards and intra-quarter driveways with blocking the passage, pedestrian passage, etc. “Such drivers should be held accountable within the framework of the service,” Petr believes. The first electric taxi in Russia was launched in Nizhny Novgorod

On January 31, a pilot electric taxi project was launched in Nizhny Novgorod. Now, when ordering a car through the Yandex.Taxi application at the Comfort and Comfort Plus tariffs, an electric taxi of the Russian brand Evolute can come to the passenger. These cars are produced by the Motorinvest Lipetsk plant based on the Chinese Dongfeng car.

Since June 2022, Electric Movement Operator LLC (part of Rosnano) has been creating infrastructure for electric transport under an agreement with the government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The company purchased 180 electric cars to launch the project and plans to purchase another 100 cars during 2023. The total cost of the electric taxi organization project amounted to 750 million rubles. The investor plans to recoup his costs for infrastructure creation within four years.

The investor company also installed 44 charging stations, increasing their total number in Nizhny Novgorod to 62. When creating the infrastructure, specialists tried to create a continuous coverage of the city so that a car enthusiast could get to the charging station in 5-10 minutes from anywhere. Built-in charging stations with a capacity of 150 kilowatts charge electric vehicles for about 40 minutes. “Now let’s see how this charging infrastructure will be operated in the next three to four months, we will analyze where residents lack charging infrastructure, and we will develop it,” said Alexei Tikhonov, director of the Electric Movement Operator.

It’s too early to talk about a separate tariff for electric taxis, there are too few of them in the total mass of cars, Yury Sidelev, head of special projects for interaction with state authorities at Yandex.Taxi, explained to reporters. “When our partners bring their “fleet” to the optimal number, it will become clearer,” he explained. “There will be no separate requirements for drivers of electric cars, they will be selected in accordance with the already existing requirements for the “comfort” tariff.”

Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Gleb Nikitin said that the region is betting on sustainable development by participating in state programs to subsidize the construction of charging infrastructure and the purchase of electric vehicles through the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
