3,800 traffic cameras have been installed in Moscow, and their number will not increase for the time being, Moscow Vice Mayor Maxim Liksutov said in an interview with Kommersant. According to him, if they see in the capital Deptrans that the presence of a camera reduces the accident rate on a certain section of the road, it is moved to another place.
“As soon as we see that the camera has completed its task – the problem with accidents is gone, drivers control their speed limit – we don’t buy a new one, but move it to a new place or a new dedicated lane,” Mr. Liksutov said. – In 2021-2022, we outweighed the complexes almost 900 times. We believe that today there are enough cameras in Moscow to monitor traffic safety throughout the city.”
Cameras, according to the vice-mayor, help police officers to search for stolen cars: photo and video recording has reduced the number of car thefts in Moscow seven times since 2015 – from 8.7 thousand to 1.2 thousand cars.
