More than half of Russians (58%) see the reduction of jobs in the development of technology. Only 14% of respondents fully trust AI. Such data follows from the GeekBrains survey, which was attended by more than 2,000 respondents across the country aged 18 to 55 years.
11% of respondents are sure that their professions can completely disappear, and 46% of them are sure that AI will be able to partially adopt their functionality. This mainly concerns translators (55%), service workers (51%), bank employees (46%), accountants (41%), production workers (40%), drivers (37%), couriers (31%) , financial advisors (28%) and auditors (21%).
The Russians also believe that the state should take an active part in the development of artificial intelligence. At the moment, according to the study, the United States (31%), Japan (27%) and China (19%) are doing best in this. Russia occupies the fourth position (9%). However, Russia is striving to increase the rate of AI development in the country, as evidenced by the Decree “On the Development of Artificial Intelligence in the Russian Federation” dated October 14, 2019, on the basis of which the National Strategy for the Development of Artificial Intelligence for the period up to 2030 was adopted.
In Russia, artificial intelligence research is included in the passport of the federal project “Artificial Intelligence”. In June, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said that AI research would cost more. Research centers have requested additional funding for AI projects. The amount of extra-budgetary investments that were planned to be attracted from industrial partners until 2024 increased one and a half times – from 1.4 billion to 2.5 billion rubles. The amount planned to be allocated from the budget from 2022 to 2024 will amount to 4.5 billion rubles.
