Reporting its poll, The Washington Post said that among Republicans, only 31% now believe Biden’s victory was legitimate, down from 39% in 2021.

The poll also showed that Republicans are becoming increasingly sympathetic to the Jan. 6 Capitol rioters and are more likely to absolve Trump of responsibility for the attack, The Washington Post reported.

Reviewing the poll, Aaron Blake, senior political reporter for The Washington Post, said it largely showed that Trump’s message about the 2020 election and the events of Jan. 6 resonated with voters already primed to believe it.

However, Michael Jay Hanmer, director of the Center for Democracy and Civic Engagement at the University of Maryland, told the newspaper: “From a historical perspective, these results would be frightening to many analysts.”
