More than 185,000 people joined the Russian Armed Forces in the first half of the year – Kommersant

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev said that more than 185 thousand people were accepted into the ranks of the armed forces (AF) of Russia from January 1 to July 4. He stated this on meeting on issues of additional staffing of the Armed Forces with contract servicemen.

“According to the Ministry of Defense, from January 1 this year to July 4, more than 185 thousand people were accepted into the ranks of the Armed Forces, of which about 109 thousand people are in the reserve, and other categories of citizens who are called up for service under the contract,” said Mr Medvedev.

As a result of the measures taken, the rate of selection under the contract in June increased to 1.4 thousand people a day, the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council also said. “I want to specifically note that the attempted armed rebellion did not change the attitude of citizens towards contract service in the NVO zone,” he said. According to Dmitry Medvedev, almost 10,000 people signed contracts with the Armed Forces in the last week alone.

On June 23, the founder of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin accused the Ministry of Defense of hitting his company’s positions and said that his fighters were going to “deal” with Moscow. The FSB opened a criminal case on the organization of an armed rebellion. The situation was resolved by the evening of June 24 through the mediation of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. The founder of the PMC should leave for Belarus, the criminal case is supposed to be closed.
