More than 1,000 people became victims of an armed conflict between the army and special forces in the province of Western Darfur (Sudan). This was reported by the Al Hadath TV channel, citing a representative of the regional government.
“The death toll during armed clashes in the city of El Geneina, the administrative center of Western Darfur, and its environs exceeded 1,000 [человек]”, – the message says (quote according to TASS). Before reportedthat in Sudan during the military conflict, 863 civilians were killed, more than 3,500 people were injured.
The conflict in Sudan escalated in mid-April between the armed forces and the so-called Rapid Support Forces (RSF, numbering more than 40,000 people, armed with armored personnel carriers and artillery), a group created on the basis of Arab militias. According to the agreement between the military and civilian structures, which was signed on December 5, 2022, the RSF organization was to become part of the armed forces, but General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemeti” (leads the RSF) refused to comply with the agreement.
At the end of April, Russian Ambassador to the Republic Andrei Chernovol said that 140 out of about 300 people confirmed the desire to evacuate from Sudan to the embassy. He stressed that the list is growing not at the expense of Russian citizens, “they have all already decided”, but at the expense of citizens of the CIS and “some other countries.”
