The Tyumen plant will begin assembling a prototype of a new gas turbine engine, which will completely replace foreign analogues, said the governor of the Tyumen region, Alexander Moor, as part of the TNF Industrial and Energy Forum.

“The Tyumen Engine Builders plant, which presented here a model of a new gas turbine engine with a capacity of 16 MW (TM-16). It should replace worn-out foreign analogues, which are currently still used in the oil and gas sector. Today, the design documentation for TM-16 has been fully developed, and the prototyping process is underway,” – said he in an interview with TASS.

The assembly stage of the main prototype is planned for early 2024, mass production is planned to begin in 2026-2027. The engines are used at compressor stations for gas transportation.

In May 2022, Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov said that generating equipment at power plants in Russia would have to be switched to “economy” mode for approximately two years.

It was noted that the development of domestic high-power gas turbine units (GTUs) is carried out by Power Machines (models GTE-65 and GTE-170) and the United Engine Corporation (GTD-110M), which is part of Rostec, the release of which is planned only for 2024.

How stated Managing director of the NRA rating service Sergey Grishunin in an interview with Vedomosti, the share of imported gas turbine units and technologically related steam turbines (combined-cycle units, CCGT) in Vygon Consulting is estimated at 15 GW, which is about 6% of the generation of the UES of Russia.
