Monuments to Lanovoy, Etush and Yakovlev will decorate the capital

The Vakhtangov Theater is preparing for the opening of the 102nd season, which will take place on September 6. On this day at noon in front of the building where the Simonov theater stage is located, the grand opening of the monument to People’s Artists of the USSR Vasily Lanovoy, Vladimir Etush and Yuri Yakovlev will take place. Sculptor Philip Trushin, who is working on this project, at one time made a memorial plaque for the facade of the house where Vladimir Etush lived, as well as a monument to the artist, installed at the Novodevichy cemetery. Maxim Obrezkov, the chief artist of the theater, became his co-author for the production of a sculptural composition for the Vakhtangov luminaries.

From the building in Kaloshin Lane through the Old Arbat, artists and guests will move to the historic building of the Vakhtangov Theater, where at the traditional gathering of the troupe before the start of the season, director Kirill Krok will share his plans for the upcoming 102nd season.

Plans impress. Directors Yuri Butusov, Anna Gorushkina, Oleg Dolin, Aidar Zabbarov, Svetlana Zemlyakova, Natalya Kovaleva, Irina Pakhomova, Yosua Rözing, Pavel Safonov, Vladislav Tutak, Anatoly Shuliev, Sergey Yashin will start rehearsing new performances on six stages of the Vakhtangov Theater.

The Vakhtangov people are touring, and their geography, as always, is extensive. Capital artists will demonstrate their skills in front of the audience Blagoveshchensk, Yaroslavl, St. Petersburg, Maykop, Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Tyumen, Vladikavkaz, Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk and Irkutsk.

One of the most global projects of the new season is the creation of the Evgeny Vakhtangov House Museum in Vladikavkaz. The dream of returning Vakhtangov to his ancestral home becomes a reality: on a construction site with an area of ​​​​about 960 square meters. meters daily work more than 35 people. Currently, builders are already starting to finish the building. Scaffolding has been removed from the side of Armenian Street, and soon they will disappear along the facade from the side of Baev Street.

The creation of the Yevgeny Vakhtangov House-Museum cultural center in the director’s birthplace in Vladikavkaz promises to be a global event. The Vakhtangov House will open its doors not only as a museum, but also as a full-fledged cultural center with a theater stage.

But in the theater they not only honor the past, but also care about the future: at the gathering troupe Kirill Krok will present a new trainee group, which was made up of graduates of the Theater Institute named after B.V. Shchukin this year. Already on September 17, the trainees will make their debut on the Studio stage with the first premiere performance of the new season, Duck’s Last Dream, staged by a young director from St. Petersburg, Vladislav Tutak.

At the end of the festive meeting, all those present will go up to the dress circle, where they will become the first visitors to the famous Vakhtangov buffet, which was restored this summer. Almost thirty years ago, Pyotr Naumovich Fomenko, starting from the phrase of A. N. Ostrovsky “We are artists, our place is in the buffet”, staged the legendary performance “Guilty Without Guilt” in this space. For two decades, the production adorned the repertoire of the theater, and with the light hand of the Master, the buffet was turned into the Small Hall, where other performances were created. After the opening of the New Stage in 2015, the Small Hall was used as a rehearsal space. Now the historical Vakhtangov buffet is again ready to receive spectators.

The new season will open with three evening performances at once: “War and Peace” will be on the main stage L. N. Tolstoy directed by Rimas Tuminas; on the new stage – “Thunderstorm” by A. N. Ostrovsky directed by Ulanbek Bayaliev; and on the Simonov stage – “The Metamorphosis” by F. Kafka, staged by Joshua Rösing.
