For more than ten years, September 8 has been celebrated in Russia as the Day of the Financier – a holiday for those who work with finance. These are bankers, insurers, brokers, financial consultants and intermediaries. Prior to this, the holiday was celebrated unofficially. The fact is that on September 8, 1802, the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Empire was established by decree of Emperor Alexander I. And only in 2011 the holiday became official. Festive events even appeared, for example, the “Financier of the Year” contest, the “Reputation” award, or the Days of Financial Literacy in schools.

According to Mosstat, in the first half of 2022, there were 359,000 financiers and insurers in Moscow. This is 7 percent more than in the same period last year. In the region, their number is much smaller – 23 thousand people. Moreover, unlike the capital, the number of financiers in the Moscow region has decreased by 10 percent over the year.

Muscovites-financiers have an average salary of over 240 thousand rubles, financiers from the Moscow region have an average salary of 109 thousand rubles. Both those and others have increased their income by 11 percent over the year.

Moscow continues to be the financial center of the country: in the first six months of 2022, the profit from the financial and insurance activities of organizations in the capital amounted to almost 685 billion rubles, which is about half of the profits of such enterprises and organizations throughout Russia. And almost twice as many as in the same period last year.

The share of organizations of the Moscow region in the total income of financial organizations in Russia is about 2 percent; in the first half of the year they earned 26 billion rubles.

The number of financial and insurance organizations that made a profit in the first half of the year decreased both in Moscow and in the Moscow region. In the first half of the year, 200 large and medium-sized organizations of the capital made a profit – over 53 percent of their total number. Among organizations near Moscow, 15 – about 52 percent of their number received a profit.

In the first half of last year, 270 or 72 percent of financial and insurance organizations in the capital and 21 (over 72 percent) of Moscow Region organizations received profits.

Also, according to the Mosstat, prices for banking services in Moscow increased by 16 percent, for insurance – by 32 percent. In the Moscow region, prices for banking services increased by 45 percent, for insurance services – by only 4 percent.

For example, renting a bank safe (per month) in Moscow will cost 1936.61, in the region – 1517.64. Transferring money from a card to a card of another bank in Moscow costs 139.37 rubles, in the Moscow region – 120.25 rubles. The price of an annual OSAGO policy in Moscow is 13,006.45 rubles, in the Moscow region – 10,344.04. Annual CASCO price: Moscow – 76273.77 rubles, region – 44989.97 rubles.
