It is useless to increase the labor productivity of Russians with money, this is the conclusion reached by researchers from the Higher School of Economics, who quotes “Kommersant”. According to the survey, more than half of respondents are not ready for an increase in workload, even if their salary increases. Some explain this by the fact that they are already working at the limit of their capabilities, while others refer to other priorities in life.

“Kommersant FM” interviewed entrepreneurs and found out whether it is worth motivating employees with money.

CEO of Oxygen Pavel Kulakov: “The percentage of people who give 120% is not that high. Still, a significant part of employees perceive work as work, and a mature employer is quite understanding about this. Still, the cult of labor is not as good and romantic as it might seem. Money as such does not improve performance. But there are methods that will allow you to achieve this, this is all called the environment. The second thing is involvement, when a person sees that he is allowed to reveal himself. And the third, of course, is the motivation system, some kind of variable part, where people get some kind of result, some kind of breakthrough.”

CEO of the consulting company DNA Realty Anton Belykh: “In any case, everything is about money. Based on the brokers who work for me, I can say that the more money they receive, the better they work, and more, and longer, and everything else. We simply do not have a fixed salary; all my employees receive some fixed pennies to pay for travel and communications. And they earn everything else from their transactions. Naturally, there are bonuses, there is an increase when you reach a certain level. If a person closes, for example, transactions worth 3 million rubles. per month, then, roughly speaking, he is entitled to plus an extra 5% or 10% of each of them. Naturally, this motivates everything.”

CEO of Finn Flare Ksenia Ryasova: “I think it depends on the profession. Do you think people who deliver your food in 15 minutes work for money or for self-realization? There are storekeepers in the warehouse, salespeople, and mostly young students who need a salary. If the store next door starts paying a little more, they leave. And self-realization is important for creative people. Another thing is that now everyone is simply asking to raise their salaries, because life has become incredibly expensive. At the same time, employees do not commit to work more, they simply commit to work.”

Analysts at the Higher School of Economics clarify that, judging by the number of working hours, Russians work on an equal basis with residents of the United States or Germany. At the same time, overall productivity in Russia is much lower than these countries. The authors explain that the problem is unlikely to be laziness of employees: rather, it is due to technological backwardness in the economy and possible management mistakes.
