Mistress gift to Hitler put up for auction: “Deceit behind the facade”

Eva Braun’s pencil with the Fuhrer’s initials is valued at £80,000

A pencil donated by Eva Braun to Nazi Germany Fuhrer Adolf Hitler could be sold at auction in the United Kingdom for £80,000. An item with the inscription “Eve” in German and the initials of the leader of the Third Reich will go under the hammer at an auction in Belfast in June.

A silver-plated pencil believed to have belonged to Adolf Hitler will go under the hammer in Northern Ireland next month and is estimated to fetch between £50,000 and £80,000.

According to The Guardian, it is believed that this was a gift to the former Nazi dictator from his longtime mistress Eva Braun on his 52nd birthday on April 20, 1941.

The pencil, originally bought by a collector at auction in 2002, is engraved with “Eva” in German and the Nazi Fuhrer’s initials “AH”.

Bloomfield Auctions in East Belfast will sell a variety of historical items on June 6, including an original autographed photograph of Hitler and a rare handwritten pardon dated 1869 by Queen Victoria for Irish rebels convicted of treason.

Carl Bennett, managing director of the auction house, says bidders expect interest from around the world.

“The importance of Hitler’s personal engraved pencil lies in the fact that it helps to reveal a hidden piece of history, giving a unique insight into Hitler’s personal relationships, which he meticulously concealed from the public eye,” the auctioneer said.

“Much of Hitler’s personal appeal during his dictatorship stemmed from his carefully constructed identity as the father of the German nation, who rejected personal ties in favor of loyalty to his country,” says Carl Bennett. “This token of love in the form of a personalized pencil from Eve on his birthday helps expose the deceit behind Hitler’s public façade.”

Bennett said that careful research and discussion with the seller of the product about where the product was purchased “gives me confidence that what I tell people what I’m selling is the real product.”

He added that he could understand why people might have reservations about selling and collecting items belonging to the dictator, continues The Guardian.

“But for me, as a collector of high-end military items, they hold a piece of our past and should be treated as historical objects, regardless of whether the story they refer to was one of the darkest and most controversial in the history of mankind,” – said the managing director of the auction house.
