MISIS scientists figured out how to increase the service life of solar panels

Students, graduate students and young scientists from NUST MISIS have developed a way to increase the service life of solar panels by five times. They propose to add a special nanomaterial to the architecture of the device – maxen, which, firstly, increases the thermal stability of the battery, secondly, reduces the efficiency loss by 4%, and thirdly, increases the durability of the battery. According to the inventors themselves, the main advantage of the development is the availability of this method for industrial scaling.

Modern and actively used now in the economy solar cells are created using silicon photocells. Their production requires high temperatures, complex technologies, which greatly increases the cost of their production. And not very high efficiency is expected. The technology for the production of solar cells, developed by MISIS scientists, simplifies and, as a result, reduces the cost of their production, increases the corrosion resistance of the material.

According to Danila Saranin, Deputy Head of the Laboratory for Advanced Solar Energy at MISIS University, the wear resistance of samples containing maxene under constant exposure to light and heat is several times higher than that of samples without maxene.

According to the university rector Alevtina Chernikova, modern materials science is, first of all, the search for new methods, technologies for the creation and implementation of promising materials, as well as reducing the time from the start of their development to implementation.

“MISIS University, as part of the implementation of the Materials of the Future strategic project of the Priority 2030 state program, sets itself the task of reducing the time for creating new materials from 20 to 5, and in some cases up to 2 years,” the rector of the university noted. — Scientists of the advanced solar energy laboratory are conducting research in the field of increasing the service life and efficiency of new generation solar cells. One of the main advantages of their latest development is the availability of scaling this method into industrial production.
