Mishustin: secondary education is not secondary

Mikhail Mishustin visited the Energy College in Reutov on the occasion of the Day of Professional Secondary Education, which is celebrated on October 2.

The Prime Minister toured the vocational training classes and talked to the guys and their mentors.

According to him, secondary vocational education is becoming more and more popular among young people. This year alone, more than 600,000 students entered colleges. “This is more than half of all ninth grade graduates,” Mishustin specified.

According to the prime minister, the current secondary education is not actually secondary – this word “incorrectly orients the guys.” Education in colleges is conducted on modern equipment and with the use of modern, including high technologies.

“The word average averages everything. Actually nothing like that. This education grounds high technologies,” the head of the Cabinet emphasized, proposing to replace “secondary education” with “professionalism”.

Mishustin recalled that there are more than 3.5 thousand colleges in Russia, in which 3.4 million students study.

“In the current situation, given the challenges faced by our country, such knowledge, competencies and their application become even more important. After all, they will go to work for enterprises of the military-industrial complex and the real sector. They will produce high-tech products that are in demand by consumers,” Mishustin stressed.

He added that college graduates will have to participate in the implementation of the most important tasks for the country, ensure not only the technological sovereignty of Russia, but also make their personal contribution to solving issues of the defense capability of our state.
