Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree abolishing the organizing committee for preparing the Russian exposition at the World Expo 2025. The exhibition is scheduled to take place from April to October 2025 in Osaka, Japan; Russia has not yet officially announced its refusal to participate in it.

“Abolish the organizing committee for preparing the Russian exposition and ensuring the participation of the Russian Federation in the World Universal Exhibition EXPO 2025,” says the text document signed by the prime minister.

In November 2023, Japanese media reported that Russia’s participation in EXPO 2025 “is not expected.” According to the Japanese authorities, the arrival of the Russian delegation and the organization of the Russian exposition at the exhibition would become possible only if “the situation around Ukraine changes.” According to Nipponthe Russian authorities did not maintain contact with the organizers of EXPO 2025 and did not try to negotiate the country’s participation in the event.

Osaka, Japan, received the right to host the exhibition in 2018. Its competitors in the fight for the right to host EXPO 2025 were Yekaterinburg and Baku.
