Mironov proposed limiting the sale of weapons to migrants who have received citizenship

The leader of the party “A Just Russia – For Truth,” Sergei Mironov, together with other deputies of the faction, developed a bill that proposes to ban the sale of weapons to Russians who received Russian citizenship less than five years ago, as well as to persons who received it in a simplified manner. The details of the bill were published by the newspaper “News”.

“This federal law proposes to establish a ban on the acquisition of civilian firearms of limited destruction, hunting weapons, and self-defense firearms by persons who have had Russian citizenship for less than five years,” the explanatory note says. The ban will also affect those who received Russian citizenship through a simplified procedure (those who received a passport while staying in the country for less than one year).

The explanatory note states that the law defines citizenship as a stable legal connection of a person with Russia, which is expressed in a set of mutual rights and obligations. Deputies believe that in order to understand the “true attitude” towards the country, a new citizen needs time, which is not available when obtaining Russian citizenship through a simplified procedure. The proposed five-year period of citizenship, according to deputies, will make it possible to “more effectively” assess the “sustainable legal connection” with Russia.

According to Sergei Mironov, today in several regions “an unfavorable crime situation is developing” caused by the “dominance of migrants.” “Having arrived in the Russian Federation, many citizens of the CIS countries strive to obtain Russian citizenship as soon as possible. As a rule, these are young, healthy guys. They don’t want to serve in the Russian army, but they regularly buy firearms “for self-defense.” Personally, this state of affairs greatly worries me,” said Mr. Mironov. In his opinion, this category of citizens cannot ensure the safety of weapons in accordance with Russian legislation.
