The list of organizations and individuals involved in terrorist activities on the website of the State Security Committee (KGB) of Belarus was updated on Tuesday, March 14, and Russian citizen Sofya Sapega was included in this list. According to the list, she is numbered 1026.
The reason for including Sapieha in the list was the entry into force of a court verdict that found her guilty of inciting racial, national, religious or other social hatred or discord in accordance with Article 130 of the Belarusian Criminal Code.
Sergei Dudich, Sapieha’s stepfather, told TASS that he had no information about her possible transfer to Russia to serve her sentence.
Sapega was detained in May 2021 along with her then-boyfriend, former editor-in-chief of the Nexta Telegram channel Roman Protasevich. Then the Belarusian authorities forced a Ryanair plane flying from Athens to Vilnius to make an emergency landing in Minsk to detain them.
Sapieha was accused of administering the Black Book of Belarus Telegram channel, which published personal data of Belarusian security officials. She was sentenced to six years in prison in May 2022 and is currently serving her sentence in the Gomel women’s colony.
In June 2022, Sapieha turned to Alexander Lukashenko with a petition for pardon, pointing out that she “was driven to crimes by her youth and stupidity.” However, she was refused.
