More than 800,000 people living in the four regions annexed to Russia applied to the migration departments for Russian passports. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Vladimir Kolokoltsev at a meeting of the collegium of the department with the participation of Vladimir Putin.

The Minister claims that every month there is an increase in applications. “Now about 17,000 of them are received daily, we are introducing additional reserves, and we will continue this work, we will do everything possible to ensure the passportization of residents of new subjects of the Russian Federation in a short time,” said Mr. Kolokoltsev (quoted by TASS).

Vladimir Putin demanded to put things in order with the issuance of passports in these regions. “People want to be citizens of our country, they go to get passports. Firstly, everything lasts for a very long time, for months, and you have to stand in lines for a long time, ”the president said.

In September 2022, referendums were held in the DPR and LPR, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of Ukraine, on the issue of joining Russia. Local election commissions reported that the majority of participants in the plebiscite approved joining the Russian Federation. Vladimir Putin signed corresponding agreement on 30 September. The pro-Russian authorities of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions began to report the issuance of Russian passports back in July. European Union will not issue visas based on documents obtained in the regions annexed by Russia, and also refused to recognize passports received there.
