Ministry of Education: collecting money from parents of schoolchildren is a criminal matter

Capital repair programs and current repairs of school institutions in Russia are carried out at the expense of the federal and regional budgets, declared Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Sergei Kravtsov at the IX All-Russian School Meeting. According to him, schools should not collect money from the parents of students. He called it a “criminal case”.

According to Mr. Kravtsov, 7,300 schools are to be repaired at the expense of federal funds in the next five years, and about 4,000 – at the expense of regional budgets. He also added that now Russia is actively purchasing modern equipment to equip schools.

Sergey Kravtsov noted that 1,300 schools will open in the territories of Ukraine controlled by the Russian military, as well as in the DPR and LPR. The Ministry of Education, according to the minister, sent more than 5 million textbooks to these institutions.

Also at the meeting, Mr. Kravtsov declaredthat from September 1 this year, the use of mobile phones in the classroom in Russian schools is prohibited. According to him, these rules will help students not be distracted from their classes.

Earlier, Sergey Kravtsov reported that more than 150 new schools will open in Russia on September 1. Also, after a major overhaul, 1,000 schools will be opened. In July, the Ministry of Education announced that against the backdrop of an increase in the cost of building materials, more than 19 billion rubles were allocated for the repair of Russian schools. By the end of 2024, the ministry noted, it is planned to build at least 1,300 new schools.
