The Trinity icon was installed in the center of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the Russian Ministry of Culture said in a statement.
As reported, the icon will be installed in a special capsule.
Earlier, Patriarch Kirill said that Andrei Rublev’s icon “Trinity” will be in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior for a year, and then it will be transferred to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. The head of the Russian Orthodox Church made the corresponding statement on Saturday after the all-night vigil in the Lavra.
Before that, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation stated that the icon would be exhibited at the KhHS for only two weeks, after which it would be given for restoration. Numerous art historians and employees of the Tretyakov Gallery spoke about the need for restoration work, pointing out that during the previous exposure of the “Trinity” in the Lavra, the conditions of transportation and storage were violated, which caused damage to the canvas.
Some clergymen also opposed the display of the icon in the XXC. Thus, Father Leonid, who headed the Expert Council on Church Art, Architecture and Restoration of the Moscow Patriarchate, spoke about the need to at least first create a special protective capsule for the canvas or even put a copy in the church. Later it became known that Leonid was suspended from work, a number of media outlets wrote about the priest’s heart problems.
