State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov proposed more strictly regulating the work of psychologists. Recently, the State Duma deputy’s email has been receiving more and more messages from citizens indicating an unhealthy increase in offers of psychological assistance.
“Of course, psychological and, of course, psychiatric help are important and necessary for some of our citizens, but what is happening now on the supply market does not fit into any gate,” the deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family Protection, Fatherhood, Maternity told MK and childhood Vitaly Milonov. – You open any social network, and a bunch of strange specialists fall out on you: astropsychologists, Gestalt psychologists, gender psychologists. Probably, if you wish, you can find a seismic psychologist.
Personally, I believe that such psychologists are teetering on the edge of quackery and provide poor quality services. Some dubious courses cannot replace systematic education and understanding of psychological processes.
I am convinced that such activities should be somehow regulated by the state. It should not be the case that someone, for example, a divorced person, declares herself a family psychologist and provides paid services. This, in the end, discredits the profession and science itself,” the deputy concluded.
Milonov is preparing an appeal to the Ministry of Health with a request to evaluate the possibility of strict licensing of this activity.
