Military commissions find serious illnesses in every fourth conscript

About 25% of conscripts and candidates for service in the Russian armed forces have serious illnesses – they are first discovered during a military medical commission. These diseases prevent military service. This was announced by the head of the main center for military medical examination of the Ministry of Defense, Andrei Datsko.

“We are talking about selection into the armed forces so that a person can perform military service, but, unfortunately, in about a quarter of cases it turns out that diseases are first detected precisely at the stage when he is examined by a military medical commission,” said Andrei Datsko on air on the Rossiya 24 TV channel. At the same time, he noted that we are talking about both contract soldiers and conscripts.

In Russia, it is prohibited to perform military service with myopia of more than 6 diopters, glaucoma, deafness in both ears, asthma, active tuberculosis, HIV, severe infectious intestinal diseases, severe curvature of the spine, kidney failure, stomach ulcers, congenital heart disease and other diseases.

Last fall in St. Petersburg was completed investigation of a criminal case against an organized group of doctors who received bribes for making false diagnoses to conscripts and exempting them from military service. According to investigators, for 250–300 thousand rubles. doctors put in their personal file a photograph of a patient with a stomach ulcer, heart defect or flat feet. Thus, a person becomes limitedly fit for service.
