Madame Nixon praised Russian models and Russian fashion

Tatyana Mikhalkova with fashion, as they say, on “you”. In the seventies, she began working as a fashion model in the All-Union House of Models on Kuznetsky Most. At that time it was the main center of Soviet fashion. Thanks to this work and her knowledge of English (Mikhalkova graduated from the V.I. Lenin Pedagogical Institute), Tatyana Evgenievna even managed to communicate with the first persons of the Soviet Union and other states who visited the House of Models. And the other day, at a fashion exhibition, Mikhalkova told MK how the wife of American President Nixon arrived during Richard Nixon’s official visit to Moscow in 1972. According to Tatyana Evgenievna, the Russian models made an impression on the American guest.

– Previously, top officials, heads of state, shahini came to the Soviet Union. And then one day the wife of the American president, Madame Nixon, came, – Mikhalkova recalled. – It was a big event! She visited the Bolshoi Theater and the House of Models. It remains in my memory that the guards filled the entire street next to the House of Models, stuck around all the trees, all the lampposts. We even had huge ambals in the locker room, where we changed clothes, and before that we walked with the dogs – everything was as it should be. Brezhnev’s wife and Madame Nixon were at the show.

– What was that event?

– Special fashion show for Madame Nixon: specially for her. All fashion houses gathered there: a shoe house, a hat house, a fur house, a knitwear house, and even a jeweler. Each image was thought out from top to bottom. I closed the show, I even kept the video, I bought it on television.

– Did you manage to communicate with Madame Nixon?

– Well, we took pictures together later, she was delighted.

– Surely she told you compliments?

Yes, but when was that? (smiling). Of course she did. By the way, she herself was very elegantly dressed: something like a small-checked overcoat. This outfit of hers then got into all fashion magazines. She was delighted with both Russian designers and models. So we got our portion of success.
