On September 1, the new season of the second most important division of Russian hockey, the All-Russian Hockey League, starts. In the 2023-2024 season, 29 clubs from different parts of Russia will compete for victory in the VHL. Kristall from Saratov, Chelny, Dynamo-Altai and CSKA VVS returned to the league after a short absence, and HC Norilsk became the only full-fledged debutant.
The debutant of the VHL during the summer off-season carried out active selection work, gathering a team of players capable of showing serious results at the VHL level. One of the most interesting newcomers to Norilsk was Mikhail Varnakov. The Nizhny Novgorod hockey graduate left Torpedo in the summer of 2022, and was listed as part of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl for the entire last season.
Now Mikhail Varnakov, who has played in all KHL seasons, will use his experience to help develop hockey in Norilsk, which is reaching a new level in the upcoming season.
