American corporation Microsoft closed the last opportunity for Windows 7 and 8 users to upgrade their OS to new versions for free. Users will now have to purchase a separate license if they want to upgrade to the more modern Windows 10 and 11 operating systems.

In July 2015, Microsoft offered Windows 7 and 8 owners a free upgrade to Windows 10—the offer was officially valid for exactly a year, but unofficially, users could use loopholes to continue upgrading from older OSes to new ones for free. For example, Microsoft extended the ability to upgrade to the latest OS for people with disabilities. At the moment, you can only upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 for free, and only if the user’s computer supports the system requirements of the new operating system.
