The Metropolitan was met at the church by the head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, and the governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhaev, as well as the Crimean clergy and Bishop Lazar, who previously headed the diocese of Crimea. The Metropolitan served a prayer service in the cathedral.
According to him, Russia is now experiencing a time of “great tragedy of the Russian people.” “We all have to overcome these challenges together, especially here on Crimean soil. To unite what is separated, as the Holy Scriptures say. Bring peace to souls. The world is real, not fragile… We must create such peace and such unity among the people of God that no one could destroy them for many, many decades. This is the calling of our generation,” the Metropolitan said in his speech.
“The Crimean Metropolis is now stable compared to those dioceses that are on the front line and that are divided. And therefore, now the most important thing, from my point of view, is helping those who need this help, both here and there, in new regions. Spiritual help, material help and preservation of unity and peace here in Crimea,” the Metropolitan said.
On October 11, by decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Tikhon (Shevkunov) of Pskov and Porkhov became Metropolitan of Crimea. Instead, His Eminence Bishop Arseny of Yuryev became the head of the Pskov Metropolis.
