Launched on June 27 from the Vostochny cosmodrome, the Meteor-M No. 2-3 hydrometeorological satellite was put into orbit, reported press service of the state corporation “Roscosmos”.

“Today, the hydrometeorological spacecraft Meteor-M No. 2-3, launched from the Vostochny Cosmodrome by the Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket, was delivered to a given orbit and separated from the Fregat upper stage,” the message says.

Rocket “Soyuz-2.1b” with the spacecraft “Meteor-M” No. 2-3 and 42 Russian and foreign associated satellites started from Vostochny today at 14:34 Moscow time.

Meteor-M No. 2-3 was manufactured by VNIIEM (part of Roscosmos). As indicated on the Roscosmos website, the spacecraft is designed to solve the problems of hydrometeorological support, climate and environmental monitoring, study of the Earth’s natural resources, etc.

“Meteor-M” No. 2-3, unlike “Meteor-M” No. 2-2, is equipped with an on-board radar system based on an active phased antenna array and heliogeophysical instruments. As Roscosmos explained, such equipment will provide all-weather radar monitoring of the Northern Sea Route and expand the range of controlled heliogeophysical parameters.
