Metallurg and Ak Bars played their second match in less than a week. A new confrontation in retro style, this time moved from Kazan to Magnitogorsk.
The retro match was preceded by a beautiful ceremony of raising the personal banner of Danis Zaripov under the arches of the Metallurg arena. Now a banner with the hockey player’s game number and surname will take its place among other names of legendary athletes who once played for the team.
From the first minutes the teams began to demonstrate active hockey. Moments alternately arose at one and the other gate. And yet, Magnitogorsk was the first to open the scoring: Robin Press shot from the blue line, and Alexander Petunin substituted his stick, from which the puck ended up in the goal.
The second period remained goalless. At the same time, the teams again had several dangerous moments. The next change in count occurred at the equator of the third segment. “Ak Bars” equalized the numbers on the scoreboard through the efforts of Riley Barber. However, five minutes before the end of regular time, Metallurg regained their one-goal advantage: Roman Kantserov, after a solo pass, was able to hit the Kazan goal.
The result was a 2:1 victory, which allowed Metallurg to break a streak of three defeats. The team will play the next match on February 22 against Amur.
