Metallurg received the most money from the KHL at the end of the season

In total, more than 448 million rubles were distributed between the clubs

The Kontinental Hockey League has published data on payments to clubs for the 2021/2022 season. Detailed information appeared on the official website of the organization.

On September 20, 2022, the KHL Board of Directors took place in Moscow, which approved the distribution of 448,295,438 rubles (including VAT). according to the results of the 2021/2022 season between the clubs of the League. This indicator is the third in the total amount of payments for eight years. The basis for the formation of payments was income from the sale of TV rights and betting rights (240.8 million rubles), as well as targeted financing of children’s and youth Russian clubs in the KHL (207.5 million rubles).

In the 2021/2022 season, the League sold television and betting rights to 23 broadcasting countries, including Russia. 1276 broadcasts were shown on 11 international TV channels, 750 broadcasts on 18 regional TV channels, 90 broadcasts on the Match TV federal channel, 1152 broadcasts on KHL TV and KHL TV HD channels.

The distribution between clubs of TV and commercial rights revenues has remained unchanged compared to the 2020/2021 season. The principles of participation in the championship (30%) and the principle of teledemand (40%) have the greatest weight in the distribution:

At the same time, when distributed according to the TV demand principle, the highest incomes were received by those clubs whose TV rights were sold more expensively.

The income distribution structure according to the sports principle (30%) is as follows:

– 15% for playoff participants,

– 7.5% to the playoff winner,

– 4.5% to the participants of the championship,

– 3% to the finalist of the Gagarin Cup.

Metallurg Magnitogorsk should receive the largest amount of remuneration following the results of the championship – 29,168,946 rubles. Of these, 6,315,775 rubles will be received on the principle of TV demand.

For the victory in the championship, CSKA will receive 15,398,896 rubles, and in total – 26,216,290 rubles, while the army team has refused targeted funding for children’s and youth sports.

According to the announcement, clubs, among other things, are recommended to use funds received from the KHL to upgrade the arena infrastructure, produce a variety of video content about club life and players, upgrade access control equipment and ticket systems at sports facilities, and replenish additional data about club fans, including the development of additional integrations with Unified database of fans of the KHL.

The practice of distribution between clubs of income received from the sale of television rights was launched by the KHL in the 2014/2015 season.

Also, at the general meeting of the KHL participants, the composition of the KHL Board of Directors for the 2022/2023 season was elected. Gennady Nikolaevich Timchenko was unanimously re-elected to the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the KHL. There are 20 members of the Board of Directors in total.

The KHL also said that Jokerit and Dynamo Riga would not receive any money from the league for last season.
