Students and postgraduates of the National Nuclear University “MEPhI” have created a laboratory that will develop import substitution projects in the field of GIS technologies.
As the researchers themselves explain, a significant part of the GIS technologies that were previously used in Russia are now blocked due to sanctions. Therefore, the young scientists of MEPhI became the initiators of the creation of the laboratory “Geoinformatics and 3D-modeling”, in which projects will be created that allow organizations and individuals to receive technologies for working with spatial information. This is, in particular, about the creation of a domestic technology for creating 3D maps, conducting applied research in the field of computational geometry, as well as fast solutions for visualizing and processing vector maps.
