Lawyer of Marat Kasem reported about his torture in Riga prison

Lawyer of the arrested editor-in-chief of Sputnik Lithuania Marat Kasem informedthat the conditions of his detention fall under the Convention for the Prevention of Torture.
The human rights activist said that on January 30, the journalist was transferred without reason to a building with convicted prisoners. He was placed in an unsanitary solitary cell with insects. Kasem developed an allergy.
Due to breathing problems, he had to open the window and sleep in a hat and outerwear. The journalist’s chronic illness worsened. Gout causes toes to fail. The guards do not respond to his complaints and knocking on the door. The prison doctor gave the journalist simple allergy pills and ignored his complaints about the underlying disease
Marat Kasem was allowed to make a call to his lawyer only on the third day, although by law he has the right to communicate with the defense every day.
The lawyer called the state of health of the client critical and called the actions of the investigation pressure in order to obtain a confession. The human rights activist also promised that he would complain and demand a medical examination of Marat Kasem.
