More than three dozen plaques with the names of the victims of repression were removed from the House of Specialists (61 Lesnoy Avenue) in St. Petersburg after an anonymous complaint against the Last Address organization. As Kommersant was told in the Last Address, the signs were removed by the Seven Keys management company. The complaint was received through the portal “Our St. Petersburg”, after the dismantling of the plate, they went to the Criminal Code.

The appeal states that the signs were installed illegally, and the project is associated with the Memorial organization, which was recognized as a foreign agent and liquidated by a court decision.

“The signs were always installed in the presence of the residents of the house and members of the Council of the house, for 7 years we have not encountered any negative reaction – on the contrary, the residents supported us, kept us informed when the house was being renovated and when it was possible to return the signs to their place after repair,” said Evgenia Kulakova, coordinator of the St. Petersburg group of the Last Address.

Tonight, carnations appeared at the site of the removed signs, a Kommersant correspondent reports. According to local residents, they were left by the residents of the House of Specialists. In the evening, they also arranged a meeting where they discussed the issue of transferring signs from the Criminal Code to residents for storage and their subsequent return to their place.

Memorial signs are dedicated to the repressed residents of the house. The first sign at this address was installed in 2016, the last one in the spring of 2023. During this time, 34 signs appeared on the house. The first installed plaque is dedicated to the engineer and director of Sevkabel, Efim Kovarsky, who was shot in 1937. A number of others were employees of the Krasnaya Zarya telephone plant, who were accused of “participating in a counter-revolutionary Trotskyist organization that carried out subversive activities at the plant.” Among them are Friedrich Schneider, head of the mechanization bureau of the plant, Vladimir Dmitriev, head of the technical department, and Ivan Sivachenko, head of production. All of them were shot. About dismantling plates became known last Friday, September 1st.

Earlier, commemorative plaques of the “Last Address” began to disappear from the facades of buildings in Moscow. They disappeared from several Moscow addresses, including from Bolshaya Polyanka, Novokuznetskaya and Tverskaya streets, Lavrushinsky lane.
