Members of the popular Korean group BTS are preparing for their mandatory military service. The plans of the musicians are reported by the South Korean agency Yonhap.
Vocalist Chin will be the first to serve in the military. He had previously received a reprieve due to his busy touring schedule. The other members of BTS will go to serve after their scheduled concerts.
“Chin will withdraw his request for a reprieve from the army,” the report said. “He will undergo the procedure for conscription into the Armed Forces in accordance with the requirements of the Department of Military Personnel of the Ministry of Defense of South Korea.”
The artists’ managers added that the members of the boy band are looking forward to getting back together “around 2025.”
The compulsory term of military service in the country is two years. But South Korean law allows world-class athletes and musicians to perform alternative service at the request of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
