Members of Basayev’s gang who attacked Pskov paratroopers will appear in court

The Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the North Caucasus Federal District has completed the investigation of the criminal case against members of Shamil Basayev’s gang, who attacked Pskov paratroopers in 2000. This is stated in a publication in the official telegram channel of the TFR.

According to the department, residents of the Republic of Tatarstan Ilgam Gumerov, Ilgiz Mukhametgaliev, Khaidar Razzakov and Mukhamedval Shaikhutdinov are accused of committing crimes under Part 2 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“participation in a gang”), Article 279 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“armed rebellion”) and Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“attack on the life of military personnel”). The Investigative Committee noted that the investigation had collected a sufficient evidence base, and therefore the criminal case against the accused was sent to court for consideration on the merits.

The investigation established that on February 29, 2000, Gumerov, Mukhametgaliev, Razzakov and Shaikhutdinov, as part of an armed gang, participated in an attack on military personnel of the 6th company of the 104th regiment of the 76th Pskov division of the Airborne Forces (Airborne Forces), which occurred near the village of Ulus-Kert, Shatoi district, Chechen Republic. As a result of the attack, according to investigators, 84 soldiers were killed and four more were injured of varying degrees of severity.

Previously, 23 participants in the clash were sentenced to long prison terms, five more defendants were put on the wanted list, criminal prosecution against two was dropped due to their death while providing armed resistance, and criminal cases against four people continue to be considered by the courts.
