TV channel Fox News, citing the FBI, reported that a Russian economist was able to fly from Copenhagen to Los Angeles without an air ticket, passport or visa. However, the man could not explain how it all happened.
It is clarified that Sergei Ochigava was detained on November 4 at the passport control point of the airport located in Los Angeles. Airport security officials were unable to find him on the passenger lists of any of the arriving international flights.
According to documents that were previously published in the Central District Court of California, during interrogation the man told law enforcement officers that he did not remember how he got on board the plane.
“The detainee has a PhD in marketing and economics. For many years he worked as an economist in Russia. During interrogation, he said that he had not slept for three days and did not understand what was happening,” the court document notes.
During the search of his luggage, he was found to have Israeli and Russian domestic “identity cards”, as well as a photo of his passport on his mobile phone. He is currently charged with traveling on an airplane without documents. He will remain in custody until the end of the trial.
