Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev called for downloading from pirates and distributing pirated copies of works that have become inaccessible in Russia by decision of Western copyright holders.

“Look for the right pirates and download from them,” the politician said in an interview with Russian media and Vkontakte users.

Thus, Medvedev commented on the disappearance of some Western music from online services in Russia.

“If they left us, all sorts of Netflix and others, then we will download it all, we will use it for free,” he said.

At the same time, Medvedev added: “And I would scatter all this over the Web in order to inflict maximum damage on them … so that they go bankrupt!”

According to him, earlier, as a lawyer, he had a negative attitude towards piracy, “thought it was better to overpay” even if “everything is on torrent trackers.”

Now he refers to this “on the principle of “what you wanted, you got it””.

He believes that it is right to deprive such right holders of “part of the non-property rights, in legal language, that they have here.”
