Medvedev: “Quiet division” of Ukraine is better than its membership in NATO

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council (SC) of Russia, believes that a “quiet division” of Ukraine’s territories is better than its entry into NATO or a world war.

“Poland, yes, frankly, and Hungary and Romania have been dreaming of taking over the western regions of Ukraine for themselves for more than a decade,” Medvedev said at the Knowledge marathon (quote according to TASS).

According to the deputy chairman, Poland and other countries are striving to implement these plans as soon as possible, while “the window of opportunity has not yet closed.” At the same time, many Ukrainians do not want to return to Poland because of “the memory of how they were treated in this country,” he said.

At the marathon, Medvedev also called the modern world “sick” and said that he was on the verge of a world war that could still be avoided. The deputy chairman of the Security Council noted that empires never fall apart without subsequent wars, and after the collapse of the Soviet Union, war was avoided for almost 30 years.

A day earlier, on April 24, Medvedev also declaredthat Poland wants to “swallow” part of Ukraine, taking “geopolitical revenge” from Russia, he assured that in the future such plans could be beneficial for Russia and a threat to Europe.

Medvedev noted that “this is only the beginning” and added that Poland is accustomed to “living in grand style solely at the expense of others.” The politician expects that only then the European authorities will “catch on” and turn to Russia for help.

The Russian authorities, citing intelligence data, have repeatedly warned about Poland’s plans to seize part of Ukraine. In particular, in November 2022, the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergey Naryshkin arguedthat Poland is preparing for the annexation of the territories of Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and most of the Ternopil regions of Ukraine. Earlier in Warsaw, such allegations were denied.
