It is possible to start applying the death penalty in Russia if the number of crimes goes off scale or in wartime, Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, believes. According to him, it is “absolutely unnecessary” to change the Constitution for this. Earlier, Mr. Medvedev suggested “overcoming the moratorium” on the death penalty for saboteurs.
“I have never spoken about the need for an immediate return of the death penalty. This is possible only if there are the most weighty reasons for it. For example, if the public danger of the gravest crimes in the country goes off scale – murders, first of all – or in wartime, as it happened before, ”said the deputy chairman of the Security Council in an interview with RIA Novosti.
