Australians may have seen a bright object in the sky, possibly related to the Russian Soyuz space rocket, reports The Guardian.
According to the newspaper, residents of the state of Victoria began to post photos on social networks, in which bright light from an object flying in the sky is clearly visible. This light trail moved in the direction of Mount Buller and then disappeared. Eyewitnesses noted that the light remained visible for about a minute.
The locals did not hide their amazement. One of them shared his impressions on a social network: “An unusual sight over Richmond. Can’t tell if it’s a meteorite or a comet?”
According to the Australian space agency, the light trail may have been left by part of a Russian Soyuz rocket that was launched from the Plesetsk space center. The rocket was used to launch a navigation satellite into orbit.
Associate Professor of Flinders University Alice Gorman specified that the Russian Soyuz rocket has parameters: weight 105 tons, length 25 meters, one of its blocks was discarded at a considerable height after using fuel.
