According to Vedomosti, citing its sources, law enforcement agencies are considering the possibility of transferring the Grom police special forces to the Russian Guard. This initiative began to be discussed after the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with the top leadership of law enforcement agencies, as well as with the personnel of the Ministry of Defense, the Russian Guard, the FSB, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSO. During these meetings, the president noted their important role in ensuring order and legality during the Wagner PMC mutiny.
A source in the National Guard confirmed that the issue of reassigning the Grom police special forces is being considered, but no decision has yet been made. The journalists sent official requests to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Guard and the press secretary of the President of Russia for comments and confirmation of this information.
The Grom special forces were organized within the liquidated Federal Drug Control Service (FSKN). It had divisions in each regional department of the anti-drug department, as well as at the federal level.
The personnel of the Grom special forces consisted of experienced officers who served in various special forces, including the FSB, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the SVR and the GRU. Employees of the former Federal Drug Control Service interviewed by journalists noted that the special forces had a good material base and had undergone thorough training.
