Matytsin considers Isinbayeva’s attitude to military rank unacceptable

The Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin commented on the words of the two-time Olympic champion in pole vaulting Elena Isinbayeva, who called her rank of major nominal. According to the Minister, this is unacceptable.
“There is an absolutely unambiguous assessment here – it is unacceptable to treat a military rank, a civil position and the events that take place in your native country this way. Every person who loves his country has an unequivocal negative attitude towards such statements,” Mr. Matytsin told reporters (quoted from TASS).
Yelena Isinbayeva earlier this week stated about plans to return to work in the commission of athletes of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In June, her work was suspended due to investigations about the involvement of the athlete in the activities of the Russian army. In 2015, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu awarded Isinbayeva the rank of major after signing a five-year contract to serve in the Russian army. She was appointed to the military post of CSKA athletics instructor.
