Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko believes that it is better for citizens who have left Russia not to return. She quoted Winston Churchill: “Sometimes you have to simulate a shipwreck so that the rats run away.”

“Those who stay abroad, if they water their Fatherland like that, then let them stay there, if they feel good there, let them not return to us. Churchill’s statement is probably applicable to them: “Sometimes you have to simulate the wreck of a ship” so that the rats run away,” Ms. Matviyenko said at a briefing.

According to Ms. Matviyenko, those who criticize Russia and the Russian army want to “earn their ticket to this new society,” but “then the nostalgia for their native land, which is characteristic of any Russian person, begins.” However, she noted that every Russian has the legal right to leave and return.
