Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko, at a meeting of the chamber on November 22, called on senators to distinguish between their personal opinion and the official position of the Federation Council when making public statements. Later, Valentina Matvienko, according to a RIA Novosti source, said that senators can speak out on various issues, but clarify that this is their personal opinion. “Because in this case, the position of one senator casts a shadow on the Federation Council, which does not agree with this position,” the agency’s interlocutor quoted Ms. Matvienko.
On November 9, the Federation Council held a hearing on demographic issues. During the hearing, Valentina Matvienko called support for fertility and motherhood priorities of state policy. To solve demographic problems, she said, it is necessary to take measures to support families.
