The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, believes that there is no longer a need to get vaccinated against COVID-19, but we must still treat the disease with caution, as the number of hospitalizations due to it is growing. She claims that the rise in coronavirus incidence was seasonal.
According to Ms. Popova, the peak of the COVID-19 incidence wave has passed in Russia. “The Russian Federation does not carry out mass immunization, and you just saw that in the fall, yes, we had an upsurge, there was one, but it has already gone away, according to the classic seasonal disease, and Today there is an incidence, but it does not have the properties of epidemic spread,” said the head of Rospotrebnadzor in an interview with Rossiya 24 (quoted by Interfax).
In her opinion, COVID-19 has now given way to respiratory viruses and influenza, the incidence of which has increased. At the same time, Anna Popova noted that the number of hospitalizations of patients with coronavirus has increased by 40% and this is alarming. “This just means that people were treated at home, did not seek medical help, and now, when they came to the doctors, the doctors say that yes, it’s too late for you to receive outpatient treatment, you need to be treated in a hospital,” she clarified .
In November 2023, Mrs. Popova reported about a new wave of COVID-19 cases in the country. Gamaleya Center statedthat the Sputnik V vaccine has lost its effectiveness, a new version of the vaccine is being prepared to be released into civilian circulation by March 2024. In December the Ministry of Health registered updated Sputnik Light.
