“Mail of Russia” recorded an increase in attempts to transport weapons in parcels

Since the beginning of hostilities in Ukraine, the Russian Post has recorded a large increase in the number of attempts to send weapons and their components by mail. In this regard, Russian Post is “implementing a set of measures” to prevent this, said Mikhail Volkov, general director and chairman of the board of the company.
“We are obliged to implement the whole complex, including technical measures, to prevent the transportation of prohibited investments. Since the beginning of the special military operation, we have recorded a large increase in attempts to transport weapons and components, ”Mikhail Volkov said at a meeting of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy (quoted by Prime).
Weapons, ammunition and the main components of firearms are prohibited from being sent by mail on the territory of the Russian Federation.
According to Mikhail Volkov, Russian Post delivers letters and parcels to the war zone. As of July 15, 40,000 parcels have been delivered to the war zone.
In January, the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Belgorod Region aroused several criminal cases against a local businessman on the smuggling of military products from Ukraine. The total amount of military goods smuggled by the entrepreneur is estimated at 50 million rubles.
In the spring of 2022, a former contract soldier tried illegally smuggle five grenades, smoke bombs and a handful of cartridges into the territory of Crimea. He hid the weapon in a backpack and managed to get to Kerch, where he was detained. He was sent to a colony for almost three years.
