Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro noted that the installation of a monument to the liberator Simón Bolivar in Moscow fills Venezuelans with a deep sense of pride. The monument was erected at the intersection of Vernadsky Avenue and University Avenue in honor of the 240th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Latin American leader.
Especially for this ceremony, the Venezuelan sculptor Jesús Manuel Suescun Quintero created a work that will now become a symbol of friendship between Venezuela and Russia. Maduro expressed confidence that the presence of the monument in Moscow will allow a new generation of Russians to learn about the ideals and example left behind by Bolívar in his struggle for independence in America.
Sergei Cheremin, Head of the Moscow Department of Foreign Economic and International Relations, emphasized the importance of this event and invited all those present at the ceremony to take part in the annual festival of cultures of Latin America and the Caribbean, which will be held in the Hermitage Garden in Moscow from June 21 to 30.
