Luis Enrique is the new manager of Paris Saint-Germain

PSG is finally ripe to introduce another coach, designed to provide the Parisian club with results that match their financial capabilities. They will be Luis Enrique, who will replace the failed Christophe Galtier. The former coach of the Spanish national team, for the sake of her decision, seems ready to make a real personnel revolution in PSG, which has just said goodbye to the legendary Lionel Messi, inviting a whole squad of new famous players.

The official presentation of Luis Enrique as the new head coach of PSG will take place on Wednesday, reported L’Equipe, as well as a number of other French publications. According to them, in addition to Enrique, the president of the Parisian club, Nasser al-Khelaifi, will take part in the presentation.

In fact, we are talking about an event long awaited. Sources told about the upcoming appointment of Luis Enrique in early June. The delay with the announcement of his head coach of PSG, they associated primarily with the need to formalize the dismissal before the expiration of the contract, that is, in fact, to settle the size of the penalty, the predecessor of the Spaniard. It was Christophe Galtier, who worked at the club for the entire season, and at the end of last week turned out to be the hero of a loud scandal: Galtier was detained by the police on suspicion of racist actions committed even before moving to the capital while working with the Nice team.

Luis Enrique will become PSG’s fourth manager in the past five years – after Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino and Galtier.

All of them failed to cope with the most urgent task for the Parisians. It turned into a club with colossal resources to buy superstars back in 2011, after it was taken over by Qatar Sports Investments. Since then, however, having dominated the French league, PSG have been unable to confirm their status as a football giant with success in the Champions League. At the same time, he most often stumbles in it on fairly distant approaches to the title, as was the case last season: in it, Bayern knocked out the club already in the starting round of the playoffs.

Luis Enrique certainly has a richer background than Christophe Galtier, a surprise invitation to PSG who deserved to take off with modest Lille and Nice. Enrique, unlike him, had a chance to work at the top level.

In the middle of the last decade, for three years, a famous player in the past headed Barcelona. However, he turned out to be quite a good choice for her. Under Enrique, the Catalans won the gold of the Spanish championship twice, in 2015 and 2016, and in the first case added to it a triumph in the Champions League. The performance of Barcelona at that time evoked quite positive reviews from experts, and among those of its players whose talent flourished then especially brightly was Neymar, who is today one of the key figures in PSG.

Luis Enrique left the Spanish club of his own free will in 2017, and shortly before that he managed to inflict PSG, perhaps the most sensitive blow of all the Parisians experienced. Having met with Barcelona in the 1/8 finals of the Champions League, they defeated them 4-0, seemingly guaranteeing themselves access to the next stage. However, in the return game, the Catalans destroyed their opponents even more – 6:1.

But the continuation of the career of the 53-year-old Luis Enrique was ambiguous. He took over the Spanish national team after the 2018 World Cup, where it stumbled in the 1/8 finals, losing on penalties to the Russians. His arrival was associated with the “upgrade” of the team planned by the country’s football leadership in order to make its football more fresh and modern. Under Enrique, the team really changed, but still didn’t get to big victories. At the 2021 European Championships, the Spaniards were stopped in the semi-finals by the Italians, and at the World Cup in Qatar at the end of 2022, she cut off again, having been defeated in a penalty shootout by much lower rivals, the Moroccans. It led to the dismissal of Enrique.

RMC Sport has no doubt that he will arrange a serious personnel restructuring at PSG. The Parisian club that just lost the legendary Lionel Messi, who decided at the end of his career to play in the US, Inter Miami is said to be adding a roster of well-known players, with some of the newcomers likely to be named as early as Wednesday at the coach’s presentation. This squad includes players of various specializations. These are Bayern and Inter defenders Luca Hernandez and Milan Skrinyar, Sporting midfielder Manuel Ugarte, Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio, Benfica midfielder Cher Ndur.
